DEFINITION

Soft Skills

Interpersonal and behavioral traits like communication, leadership, and teamwork.

Soft skills are interpersonal, behavioral, and communication abilities that affect how you work with others and approach your job. Examples include leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, adaptability, and communication. While ATS systems increasingly recognize soft skill keywords, simply listing them is less effective than demonstrating them through achievement-based bullet points (e.g., 'Led a cross-functional team of 8 to deliver a product launch 2 weeks ahead of schedule'). The most effective resumes balance hard skills for ATS matching with demonstrated soft skills for human reviewers, since hiring managers consistently rank soft skills among their top evaluation criteria.
