DEFINITION

ATS-Friendly Format

A resume layout designed to be accurately read and parsed by Applicant Tracking Systems.

An ATS-friendly format is a resume layout that uses clean, simple formatting to ensure Applicant Tracking Systems can accurately parse all of its content. This means using standard section headings (e.g., 'Work Experience,' 'Education,' 'Skills'), avoiding tables, text boxes, columns, headers/footers, images, and graphics that can confuse parsers. ATS-friendly resumes typically use common fonts, consistent date formats, and submit in PDF or DOCX format. The goal is to ensure that every piece of information you include is correctly extracted and categorized, so your qualifications are fully represented when the system scores your application.
