Resume parsing is the process of automatically extracting and organizing information from a resume into structured data fields such as contact details, work history, education, skills, and certifications. Parsing technology uses natural language processing (NLP) and pattern recognition to interpret resumes in various formats (PDF, DOCX, plain text). Accurate parsing is critical because errors at this stage — caused by unusual formatting, tables, graphics, or non-standard section headings — can result in missing or misclassified information, which lowers your ATS score regardless of your actual qualifications.
